待望のDVD 『ROCK IN RIO』、2枚組みでついにリリース。 　25万人を動員したという伝説的なフェスティヴァル、ROCK IN RIO のトリをつとめたメイデンのライヴを余すことなく収録。 　ドニントン・ライヴの7万6千人もスゴイと思ったが、25万人となると凄すぎて想像力が及ばない･･･。本来2CDと同時期のリリースを目論んでいたようだが、DVDのワークグループの仕事振りが酷すぎた(!)ということで、最初から作り直すというハプニングがあったらしい。そのせいかDVDのリリースは遅れ、2C が先行リリースの形をとることになった。2CDでの先行リリースのパフォーマンスも感動的だったが、映像をともなったこれはスゴイ。実に感動的である。過去に 『RAISING HELL』 などのヴィデオがヨーロッパでDVD化されたことはあったが、今回はメイデン初のDVD制作、となる。しかも、2DVDときたもんだ。おそらく初回仕様だと思われるので、ファンは早めにゲットしておこう。 　2001年、25万人のオーディエンスと数百万のテレビ視聴者を相手に行われたROCK IN RIO でのライヴ･パフォーマンスを収めたもの。収録は2台のクレーンおよびヘリ、4人のカメラチームを含む14台のカメラを使用、Globoテレビによって行われ、ディレクターには"The Wicker Man"ヴィデオで仕事をともにしたDean Karr があたった。TV放送用の素材を使うことなく、スティーヴ･ハリスによって完全に再編集され、2時間のパフォーマンスに数千もの編集(まるで"Lord Of The Rings"や"Gladiator"のように!)が施された。 　サウンドプロダクションは 『Brave New World』 をプロデュースしたKevin"Caveman"Shirley があたり、ドルビー5.1サラウンドのほか、ホームシアター用にDTS(Dolby Theatre Sound)トラックも確保したと言う画期的なもの。 　ボーナスディスクの方には、25年にわたるライヴアクトとしてのメンバー･インタビューやオフィシャル・フォトグラファーのRoss Halfin のナレーション付きのフォト･ダイアリーなどが1時間以上に渡って収録される。また、DVD未保有者のためにダブルVHSもパッケージングされた(日本未発売)。 　それにしても、今回はDVDフォーマットで気合が入ったせいか、あるいは25万人ものオーディエンスを相手にしたせいか、メイデン史上No.1のヴィデオ・ソフトに仕上がったと断言しておく。映像、パフォーマンスともに!! 　（もっとも、ハリス先生の作業は「もう思い出したくない」ほど大変だったらしいが。笑。）
